The Life and Work of Willis and Richwood United Churches

New Combined Services Working Well

At the newly organized Official Board meeting on Tuesday, May 8th Brent Hutchinson, co-chair, expressed the sense that our new format of holding one service each Sunday and alternating service location on a monthly basis, was working well. Everyone seems to be enjoying worshiping in a larger congregation. During the month of April our attendance varied from a low of 60 people to a high of 100!

The presence of the young people and the Youth Choir have certainly added more excitement to our services and it is a real plus to have a Combined Choir each week to help lead our singing. We are feeling truly blessed with this new format.

Service Time~

What is Your Choice?

When the Official Board decided in March to change our worship schedule format to one service at one monthly location, they decided to continue to use our current combined service time of 10:00 a.m. Since then, there has been some discussion regarding going to a 10:30 service time beginning in September. The board feels that such a decision should be made by the combined congregations. Therefore, on June 17th a congregational vote will be held immediately following the service to decide our service time beginning in September – 10:00 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. The choice will be up to you.

From the Minister’s Study ~

                                                                                                            May, 2012

Dear Friends,

“I thank my God for you every time I think of you; and every time I pray for you all, I pray with joy.”           - Philippians 1: 3.4

May is a very special month for me – particularly this year because it marks the 20th anniversary of my ordination. Twenty years ago I never expected that I would still be in active ministry at this point in my life – but I am! And I celebrate, not only this, but also that I am with you!  I thank God for you, the people of Willis and Richwood, who have made my life so rich and full.

As I look back over our months together, and at all the activities and special events that have taken place, I cannot help but give thanks for the many people who have given so freely of their time, gifts, and abilities to make our life together what it is. We have truly been blessed! God’s Spirit is alive and active in our midst!

And speaking of God’s Spirit, the season of Pentecost will soon be here. Please join us at Richwood on Pentecost Sunday, May 27, when we explore the story of the first Pentecost and share in the Sacrament of Communion. There will be special music provided by Adele Gunn and Martin Mason. Truly it is a day to feel God’s Spirit in our midst.

The following week, June 3 at 11:00 a.m., we will be celebrating Willis’ 143rd Anniversary with a musical service featuring our Combined Choir, our Youth Choir, and special guests, The Cutting Edge Quartet. Come, enjoy the music and sing some of your favourite hymns as well.

Summer services begin on July 1 at the Baptist Church and continue in August at Richwood. In September we will return to Willis and begin the story of Moses with the theme – “Let my People Go!”

I am looking forward to some rest and relaxation during the summer, especially the Lemon Clan Gathering at the cottage the beginning of August.

Have a safe and happy summer.

Blessings,

Rev. Liz
